Gary becomes a Colorado ranch kid.

Gary always has a pen in his mouth as seen here drawing on his dad's foot
at age 13. Possibly the oldest PENMEN® drawing is shown in a plane
in the arch of his father's foot.

Gary's chores include irrigating the alfalfa fields,
tending to the goats, horses, garden, and apricot trees.


Caving in Meeker, Colorado

Two miles down a country road was the school house where Gary
drew his first PENMEN® character.

Gary visits the school house 9 years later in 1986.

Gary draws the Budweiser team after a Christmas drive into Aspen.

The country school skis at Sunlight Ski Area in Glenwood
every Wednesday during the winter.

Gary rescues a falcon (Sparrow Hawk) that falls from a nest in the barn.

By the 8th grade Gary would ride his motorcycle
down the dirt road to the school house.

Gary's mother tries to find the two identical PENMEN®, 1980.

Gary would finish his assignments by noon and
ride his motorcycle home to work
on renovating the ranch house. His father
paid him with camera equipment. That is
Gary on the ladder putting new shingles on the
roof using climbing rope around his waist.

Gary's room during high school in Grand Junction,
Colorado in 1982. The drawing

first poster 2 years ealier is shown.

Gary dreamed of photographing for National Geographic.

The Blehm family finally gets a Jeep, CJ-7.

The Blehm family moves back to Grand Junction, but
never slow down with outdoor adventure.

Gary becomes a certified sport diver and spends three weeks diving at
a Catalina Island dive camp...lucky. He tries surfing, but prefers skiing.

High school years would follow and Gary would
end up in Colorado Springs by 1985.
